Automated planes + only making a few landings per month = can't land the jet anymore = dead people.

As a personal example, I will never forget that time I went almost two months between flights, and realized my error on takeoff...really rough and way off. Luckily I got enough practice during the flight to land OK. I never made that mistake again.

Flying is full of learning by doing things wrong, hence the famous monthly column in Flying Magazine called "I Learned About Flying From That."

Now we have a whole generation of pilots who have grown up on automation.

And a new generation of politicians that grew up on social media.

In important ways, we are growing dumber and less capable than before. There is just enough automation to let an incompetent person think they are a genius, but not enough to protect us from said incompetent person.

Children are running around with knives.
